It looks like a redwing, Brian.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
WOW. It is indeed a Redwing, but a leucistic one, looks to be lacking dark brown/black eumelanin pigment. Gorgeous bird.

The fact that it's kept the red bit suggests that it is lacking eumelanin (black/dark brown) but not phaeomelanin (red and red-brown).
Birds with aberrant plumage often seem to be able to find mates with no problems, esp. in species where the sexes look alike. As long as it sounds like a Redwing and behaves like a Redwing (and stays fit and well) it should be fine :)
