Nest box advice needed

A pair of great tits have used my nest box (with camera) and laid nine eggs, of which eight hatched. All of the chicks have now left but unfortunately one or two have died and remain in the box.   Can I legally remove them and what's the best way of disposing of them?

I think as long as you are absolutely sure that the nest is not being used then it is legal to clear it. However, Great Tits can sometimes have a second brood and to clear it now might inhibit them. If they do they would probably just build more moss etc over the top. I'd be inclined to leave it until later in the year when the breeding season is over. The RSPB recommendation is to clear and clean nest boxes in the Autumn.
