Am I right in thinking that our personal e-mail address is not visible unless we want it to be? I have received an unsolicited private e-mail from someone who claims to have read my profile on the RSPB forum and now wants to be my 'friend'. When I checked my profile I can't see anything there that shows my 'home' addy. Needless to say I am ignoring it.

Sorry, I think this banter is very negative and will not encourage any new members to contribute.

I am sorry if you think the forum members helping me out with a problem is banter. Everyone has been very helpful and I think that is a positive message to give new members, not a negative one. I am slightly bewildered and hurt by this remark and I have only been a member myself since June, so am comparatively new and welcome all the help and friendship I have been given by almost everyone on this forum.
Tulip,
I am sorry if you are "bewildered" and hurt - that was certainly not my intention in my post. I am a bit bewildered too - but that might be due to various PMs floating about.
There are things on the forum which need to be sorted and I hope the people who have control of that listen to the members and make it a safe and enjoyable community.
Claire
I agree Claire. It was as a result of one the things that needs sorting that the forum members were trying to help me with a problem. I hope you sleep well, I'm off to bed now!
I have always believed that one should use a complete alias when surfing forums. That way you do not risk any personal information.
I have stuck to this policy for over twelve years and it has served me well.
Not sure if is it true now but under the old forum it was devastatingly easy to reveal your e-mail address.
