There seem to be several problems with the "Insert photo" functionality. We are investigating them as a matter of urgency and are getting support from the Community software manufacturer.
The list of problems is as follows:
Problem 1
If you click the Browse button before the page has fully loaded, when you choose a photo the filename is not displayed and nothing further happens.Workaround: Wait until the page has fully loaded (you can tell because the Browse box gets bigger)
Problem 2
Even if you wait for the page to load, when a file is chosen the filename is printed in italics and it never says "Uploaded". The screenshot below shows what it looks like if it fails, is still uploading or is done. We are investigating this problem.
Problem 3
Photos that are uploaded are then corrupted (look incomplete). We are investigating this problem.
Problem 4
Photos do upload but they take a very long time. We are investigating this problem and it may be related to wider speed issues across the RSPB website.
Problem 5
When you choose a photo via the Browse button and then click the Insert button, it displays a message in red asking you to choose a file even though you already have.
Problem 6
After choosing a file, the name appears in italics but no progress bar appears. After several minutes, an error message appears in red underneath the Browse box.
Problem 7
An image is added and displays in the post editor but is missing when the post is saved and viewed on the site.
If you are experiencing a problem uploading photos and it is not one of these, please tell us below.
Thanks,
Graham

Hello Graham
Today, the "upload file" function worked just fine. I notice that another community member also reported that it was working. Hopefully, it'll stay "fixed"!

If you can't ID a bird, don't worry - just enjoy it!
Not working again, cannot upload photos. I spent an hour doing a post and photos then lost the lot when website crashed. I have been trying all day to upload a post and photos, but now give up,, tried everything, drag and drop made it crash, cut and paste cannot do that. normal upload, error sign, no uploaded bar again.

Unfortunately, having reported on 9th that I was able to upload photos, we seem to be back to the same problem - Problem #2. Not possible to upload photos today.
You will see that I have been having 'conversation' on identify this, and 'chat' when I try to send photographs it keep telling me that the max is 64kb, and I haven't been able to reduce them. In the past I have sent various photos of 746 kb and had no problem- what has changed on the new site?
Sorry to be a pest
isn't wild wonderful
Hi Min
Are you sure you haven't been trying to use the "File attachment" under the Options tab rather than the "Insert image" icon under the Compose tab. I have a feeling any file you try to "Attach" is limited to 50kb although I wouldn't swear to it.

Wow Teejay I think you might be right I will try again
Hi all,
Just a quick update on this issue. No progress has been made and nothing has been changed. We are concentrating on resolving the intermittent slowness of the entire site. When that has been fixed we will come back to this problem.
All the best,
Had three attempts at uploading pics today. First it just froze so I changed from firfox to IE. I managed to upload 7 pictures, however when i click post all but one disappeared. In did them again and all but 2 disappeared. I have now given up:(
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Hi all - a quick update on this as we haven't updated you for a while and I exopect you're all keen to know what's going on.
We're in active discussion on with the support team from the software manufacturer on this. It's been very tricky to get to the root cause.
The main problem slowing the resolution down has been the manufacturer's support team not being able to successfully replicate the problem to pin down the cause. Although I can confirm it's not for a lack of trying. However, there's definitely people working on it and we have a number of new investigations going on as I type.
We'll update this thread as and when we have news for you.
Thanks for your patience. We really do unbderstand how important the photo upload feature is for our community, so it's a top prioritiy for us to resolve.
Kind regards,
Cliff
There is no news above and beyond what Cliff reported above.
It would be useful to know which of the 7 problems are affecting people the most. Then we can focus the software company's efforts on fixing those.
