Of course, these are entirely optional - you don't have to tell the world this info - but for some people it will be very welcome.

Hi doggie,
Good suggestion but there's no need - I am helping Barbara directly. Let's keep the discussion to the upgrade.
Thanks,
Graham
So long as you have a few "Lifebelts" handy we should be OK!!!!
Please note I have updated the original post with a note about user badges.
Haven't been on for a while (personal problems), so my apologies!
These changes do sound rather exciting I must say. Look forward to seeing what's in store next week!
Hello Paul.
Graham, is there a rough estimate on what time the upgrade will finish such as morning .? afternoon.? Midnight.? or is it just a case of its done when its done..?
Hi Juno,
It will be done when it's done, as you say. Rest assured we will be re-opening the site as soon as we can.
Unknown said: I hope the optional spellchecker will be in UK English, and not the so-called US English! As soon as the configuration of the topic sections, allowed groups within each and thread generation protocols in the new system are determined, please can we have a tutorial schedule of them so that contributors can get to see what is okay and what is not.? We don't want mavericks making unnecessary confusion in the early days. Thanks very much for the information notices so far, I hope as many regular contributors as possible have taken the opportunity to read and re-read them.

May I endorse what Eagle-eye is saying - it would be most helpful

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
Just back from holiday, glad I spotted this thread!
I've never bothered much with the friends option before, because it didn't seem to make any difference! I'm hoping now, rather belatedly, to change that situation - (?)
As another slow learner, I trust I'll manage to master the new look in due course without too many hitches!
Only one day left before I catch up on all the household chores.
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with my evenings now if I can't get on here......hang on, I know!
Yep sorted, I'll purchase me birding software and get on with logging my entires so I know where i'm up to. Otherwise If i'm not careful, i'll forget something if I ain't already.
Like Judi said, 1 more day and boom, we'll have to see each other after three days. Does give us all a chance to go off and do some birding ready to crash the site when it returns lol.
Look forward to see what people have got up to.
