Personal Messages

Hi to All,

I am one of the newbies on the forum and I am still finding my way round.

I was wondering if there is a way to send personal messages to other members as I have not seen a way to do this.

I am a member of other forums and they all seem to have this facility.

  • Hi Graham

If you click on a member's name it will take you to their "page". On that page there is a link to leave a comment. The message you send will appear on their page for all to view. I think that's the only way to send personal messages.

    Take care,

    Paula

  • Hi Paula,

    Thanks for your reply.

I had looked at that but when I say personal message I meant so the contents are only known to the sender and the recipient. I am sure that there is often a time when members feel the need to contact others on a one to one basis. As I have said in my previous post I do use other chat forums and this facility is on all of them. Maybe we could get the moderaters to look at this and seeif it would be possible.

  • Hi Paula,

Thanks for sending the message but as I have said it is there for all to see so its not really personal.

    Hi Graham

Thanks for your question. At the moment it's not possible to send personal messages through the community, apart from leaving a message on someone's profile page as mentioned above. But it's something we'll think about for the future.

  • Hi Katie,

    Thanks for your reply.

I am pleased to hear that it could be a future possibility as I feel that it would be a usefull feature and I think there may also be other members who would agree.

  • Hi nestbox,

I am sorry but I must disagree with you~(:o(.

This is a very open and friendly site and I don't understand why you would want to have 'secret conversations' ?

Again, I am sorry and don't mean to sound harsh......it is just my opinion.

  • Hi Katie

I have just registered my disagreement with 'nestbox'  regarding his request for personal messages.

This  is a very open and friendly site and I don't understand why anyone should want to have 'secret conversations'.

  • Hi Maureen,

First let me say that I don't  think that you sound harsh in any way and you like all other members are entitled to your opinion.

Second I totally agree with you about the fact that this is a friendly and open site. I know I have only been a member for a couple of days but the impression that I get from the forums, groups etc is that you are all a friendly and no doubt a trustworthy bunch of people and I do not wish to be the one to start making waves.

My point is that as I have said I do post on other chat forums and through one especialy I have got to know people all over the world. This has meant that some of these people have become friends on a personal basis but this would never have been the case without the facility for personal messages. It just gives the opportunity to give information that you would not want all to see. It is not so we can start name calling or anything like that.

  • Hi Nestbox,

You are correct that a person to person message system is an essential. There are many pieces of information that you might want to exchange that you do not want the world to know.

Almost every forum forum system has that facility now.

Sorry, Tiger (and Nestbox): I totally agree with Maureen.  A Forum is a place where information, observations and opinions are openly shared with the community.  There are other ways of making friends and communicating with individuals.  I would not like to see additional functions added into the forum setup on this site.
