As far as I can see, there's nowhere where the RSPB itself is discussed. It's understandable almost all the posts are about birds, which we all enthusiastic about, but is there not also a need to examine how we're doing as an organisation? Suggestions for our new Chief Executive perhaps, or thoughts about membership turnover (we sign up lots of new members, but why do so many leave us before long?), or about how we spend our funds in UK or overseas, or about how well campaigns are going (lots of signatures for letter to the future, but not so good when you see it's less than a quarter of our membership).
You will probably guess I'd like to start with a good moan! I volunteered for a couple of different things, and the first response in both cases was "please fill in this form authorising a CRB check". Not very welcoming I thought, how about a phone call first to see if I suit the job and the job suits me! How does the RSPB recommend its staff to handle the first contact with a new volunteer?
Overall the RSPB does a really great job, so this isn't really about moans but about fostering continuing success, by exchanging ideas about how we do things and what we might do extra/differently/less of.

Well cJackson92, there's not been much actual dispute. What there has been is a group of people saying they feared disputes, and a few assuming the worst about others' motives. 5WIFT I must admit i think i was hastey with my first comment and i think your right (not that i would participate in the thread as i know nothing about the subject) but i think it would be good to perhaps give the thread a try to see if it can be maintained sensibly. I appollogize for posting to quickly without thinking.

Nice that you think like that as I do not consider swifts thread or comments inflammatory and think even if it is the first comment just as much right to be on here as someone with 10,000 comments,the RSPB are quite capable of accepting criticism and for sure dishes more out than it receives and swifts seems very mild,of course it is a personal decision whether to sign the letter and to say if they have or not but if swift has made people think about it and sign then good will come out of it.

Seymouraves, you are definitely one of the people whose opinion is valued highly on here. You are so knowledgeable and well informed and never make others feel stupid or that their views do not matter. I for one have learned a hell of a lot from you and you were one of the people I was thinking about in my post. :-)
OK, so you are also an old hippie (apparently?) with a wicked sense of humour but surely the "more serious bird people" (sic) can overlook this?

People whose only interest is their garden birds are often those with knowledge of plants and insect biology / eco systems etc. ( eg my cool neighbours ) They have expertise in different areas and share wider goals with we bird types :)
