Male or Female?

I got a photo (not to bad ) of my thrush, I was just wondering if you can tell if its male or female, I know I have two vist my garden but only see one now, it maybe that they come one at a time. they don't both land in the garden at the same time, one eats while the other watches. they seem to get on well with my blackbirds and will eat together on the table, they even eat with the starlings.

Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!

  • Hi janet, from what I can gather, reading past posts, I don't think you can tell males and females apart they have identical plumage, great pictures though he/ she looks a sweety.

    all the best bbb.

    Hi Janet

    Super pictures of your Song Thrush, and Blackbird.  Song Thrushes are so beautiful and delicate.

    Wish they where not so shy though.

    I do not know the answer to your question but looking into it at the moment.

    Regards

  • Hi Janet,

    Have a look at Buzzard's post of 13th Feb about sexing song thrushes, and the link he provided. I think you will find the answer there. You must have missed the post.

    In the last hour or so, I have just seen two Song Thrushes in our garden so it must be a male and female {smile}

    They must be pairing up now.

    Now the Blackbirds seen to have calmed down, and are not so aggressive towards the Song Thrushes

    Must try to get a picture of the two of them at one time - double take.
