I heard a bird down by the river today, I know the song but I can't think what is was! It sounded a bit like a skylark but it wasn't a skylark. I've heard it before but can't remember the owner of the voice and I think the time of year has thrown me a bit as I'm sure it's something I normally hear in the summer not in Feburary even when the sun shines!
Does anyone know what sounds a bit like a skylark but not quite? I'm trawling through the RSPB songs at the moment trying to find it!
Oh, and it was singing low down, not flying, in some scrub right by the river possibly on the ground possibly on one of the branches/stems. And I'm North of Dundee, Scotland just in case location helps.
*goes back to listening to bird songs*

Yup, brilliant to see them back again! I'll have to keep an eye out for them working on their nests and hopefully see if I can get some more photos of them :-)
Brilliant news, Ace little birds. Look forward to seeing any photo results.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Magic! Dippers are fantastic wee birds. :-)
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Haven't seen them today or yesterday, there have been roadworks close to the river though which have been pretty noisy and dusty so maybe they are further downstream where it is a bit quieter, haven't had a chance to go see though. It's good to know they are around again regardless!
I'll see if they are returning to their usual haunts and then head out with my camera to see if I can get a few photos of them!
Heard and saw the dipper singing yesterday and a couple of days before! In fact I think there were two of them singing away but it was difficult to hear with all the other birds singing!
If you see great photo opp's with them and are willing to pass on exact location, I would be interested. No worries if you don't wish to share, I will not be offended in any way! Look forward in any case to seeing some photo's.
John :-)

John :-).
Hi John,
Photo ops are usually pretty good with these, though they seem a bit shy at the moment and are keeping their distance. These are photos I took a couple of years ago of them:
With the first two they weren't that far away and I've been just metres from them. They are on the stretch of the South Esk that runs right through Brechin, I've mostly been seeing them along the part of the river that runs through the leisure centre park but I've seen them along River Street as well. You can get right down to the river at the leisure centre and there is a lot of cover down there so should be able to get pretty close once they settle down a bit.
