I heard a bird down by the river today, I know the song but I can't think what is was! It sounded a bit like a skylark but it wasn't a skylark. I've heard it before but can't remember the owner of the voice and I think the time of year has thrown me a bit as I'm sure it's something I normally hear in the summer not in Feburary even when the sun shines!
Does anyone know what sounds a bit like a skylark but not quite? I'm trawling through the RSPB songs at the moment trying to find it!
Oh, and it was singing low down, not flying, in some scrub right by the river possibly on the ground possibly on one of the branches/stems. And I'm North of Dundee, Scotland just in case location helps.
*goes back to listening to bird songs*

Ooh I can't think of anything that sounds similar! Be interested to know what it turns out to be!

I can't think how to describe the song! lol
I think I have it narrowed down to a meadow pipit or grey wagtail, I know there are grey wagtails along the river so they are the most likely suspect I can find, but they tend to be a noticeable when they are about and don't usually stay hidden away. The only thing is I don't associate what I heard with water so that is making me think meadow pipit but then I nearly always see them flying when they sing and I've never seen them by the river!
Have you tried listening to a Dipper song?
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

Hmmm that sounds like a definate possibility! There are dippers along the river, though I haven't seen them for a while, this could mean that they are back! I'll keep an eye out for them, I have a rough idea of where they are nesting as a couple of years ago I saw one carrying moss and reappearing moments later with no moss.
Wow! That would be good! I love dippers! Hoping to see some this spring somewhere I've been told they frequent!
Sorry for dupe...

Once I saw one I spotted them all the time lol We have two pairs that nest along the river, the bridge seems to divide their territories. Didn't see them much last year but the year before they were forever flying from one bank to the next!
How about a tree pipit?
Guess what I saw yesterday! Two dippers along the river so I think they are the most likely mystery singers!
Excellent news Kat! How fantastic!!
