Hi everyone I'm so excited, just had to tell everyone, I've been feeling so sorry for the Song Thrush I've had visiting, he/she has been getting mobbed and chased away by the Blakbirds whenever he comes to my garden for a feed, and he's been getting so nervous of late with the Blackbirds now in pairs attacking him, and all on his own while I have noticed lot's of my birds pairing up, I had wondered if he would find a mate with them being so scarce now, AND HE HAS, he turned up today with his own mate, with a mate for support now I hope the Blackbirds might leave him alone. I don't suppose they will though with all the fighting for there patch of land now spring is on it's way.
Being new to this, I don't know but does it ever happen that some birds won't find a mate and miss a breeding season.
There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
We have one Songthrush in our garden. He/she is continually chased of by the Blackbirds.
The Female Blackbird leaves him/her alone if he/she is on her own
When Mr Blackbird appears - both the Male and Famale blackbird chase the Songthrush over the fence, and into the next garden. It is the mob mentality ....poor bird
The Songthrush seem to hold its own though.
Wonder if we will see a pair of Songthrushes as that would be a nice addition to the garden,
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Blackbird, it's sad to see isn't it. I thought my Song thrush might be left in peace a bit more now she has found a mate, but she isn't, I'm calling her a she now because the mate she has found quite often sits on top of the garage roof while she eats, looking like he's watching over her, and then flys away with her when she has had her fill without eating himself, he then comes back a bit later on his own to get his food for himself, and I'd like to think thats the gentlemanly thing to do lol. The blackbirds now chase her and her mate away.
Hi BBB, give your Song Thrushes time and they will work out how to get around the Blackbird problem. My pair have sussed it out very neatly and they now come and eat with the Starlings (the Blackbirds never challenge the Starlings - they sit and wait until the Starlings have gone before coming to the tables).
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi Squirrel, I hope so, the poor things half the time the Blackbirds aren't even in my garden when they attack them I think they must be watching out for them from the oak tree outside the garden, or over the field, they come flying over as soon as they spot them.
My song thrush hasn't appeared for a couple of days. Maybe he has found a mate and is in her garden!
Cheers, Linda.

This is my Song Thrush by the ground feeders.
I think he/she is telling me to fill up the bird dishes by the look of his/her face
Picture taken through the window so looks a bit misty.
Hi Blackbird,
Lovely photos. She does look like she is trying to tell you something!
Hi Blackbird, lol she is looking rather longingly, pictures do lose that sharpness through glass don't they I took this one through glass, but i had the camera pressed up against the window which I found does improve the sharpnes a bit, holding my breath so as to mist it up lol.
and Sparrow my (what I think) female one isn't turning up quite so often, still comes everyday but not so often I think she might be building her nest,
So as not to mist it up I should say, my brains gone today.
Hi BBB,
That's a really lovely photo. He/she is tucking in quite happily without a blackbird in sight!
