When I fill a seed feeder it is swamped within minutes by a flock (about 8) Jackdaws and a further five magpies and emptied within an hour. The seed they drop is hoovered up at the same rate by up to 12 feral pigeons. The tits and greenfinches the seed is intended for have no chance. Any suggestions (apart from not using the seed feeder!) for discouraging the big brutes? The same, incidentally, applies to the fat blocks I put out.

LOL Brenda,
I did think about it, then had an idea. I have a chinese lantern feeder that has a plastic tube inside. The base is dish shaped sort of and quite wide with little drainage holes. I thought if I removed the tube and replaced it with a shallow plastic dish, that might work just the same. This is my project for this evening! If it doesn't work, I will just have to buy one!!
Cheers, Linda.

That sounds an excellent idea Sparrow. Hope you succeed.
You're welcome Squirrel :o)
Sparrow - that certainly sounds resourceful of you. Not to mention an excellent use of a feeder that your Sparrows seem to be neglecting :o)
I too confess to be being somewhat of a feeder obsessive. With the guardian that's on order I have bought 3 feeders just this week!
