I live in rural Warwickshire, as far away from the sea as is possible to get I would think. We regularly have gulls around our local sewage station and surrounding fileds - mostly black headed. What happens in the breeding season? Do most go back to the coast or can there be resident, breeding populations inland? If so where do they breed? Does anyone know?
Black-headed gulls breed inland and they will live inland or on the coast. We have a colony here in a quarry lake for example.

Hi,
I live a little way inland and get different Gull spp. at different times of the year. It's worth seeing if others pass through. My local fields get Common gulls which arrive in September followed by bigger nos of Herring gulls later which stay to winter , then Lesser black backs pass through and Great Black backs drop by occasionally.

I've also seen other gulls in my area such, as Herring and Great black-backed, but I haven't really noted which ones turn up, when. It's well worth taking a closer look and recording the findings. Many thanks.
