Hi there
I would like to know if Squirrels are proven to eat bird eggs/young if given a chance to do so?
I have heard this and that over the years and would like to know what others think of the matter at hand.
As a matter of fact, I have asked a couple of people already and it confirmed that Squirrels do eat birds eggs.
What are your opinions?

Hello Birdmum, just seen yr question. Would have thought the sparrowhawk had a lot easier pickings in the local birds to tray and have a go with your squirrels .
They would take juveniles if the opportunity arose I feel sure but an adult Grey would be somewhat of a contest for a sparrowhawk.
A Buzzard might have a go though being partial to small mammals!
A reason you have not seen much sign of your squirrels lately is that during very cold weather, although they do not hibernate they do tend to stay in their winter drey , only coming out now and then to try and remember where they have stashed their previously hiddeb store of food.
I am sure they will be back very soon as the "courting" season is about to start when they are to be seen making also sorts of noise chasing the females around and and around .
regards
Well said John.
Sticking to the facts.
Sparrowhawks are quite small BoP's, compared with other BoP's
To me a Grey Squirrel is too big for Sparrowhawk to deal with.
Goshawk and Squirrel now that would be easy pickings that comes to mind
