I just wondered if anyone else has seen anything different or strange in there garden or local area since the snow came.
I had a SNIPE in my garden feeding a few times in the last couple of weeks (hasnt been since i have had my camera on the side unfortunately)
i also have larger numbers of birds....about 20+ starlings appear everyday around 1.30pm never had any in the garden before.
I used to have 2 wood pigeons visit daily...they seem to have told their friends as the last few days there have been 8-10.
My regulars are a pair of Blackbirds, a pair of Robins and a male Thrush, and a few Bluetits.
But there have also been the odd Great tit and what i think was a Chaffinch.
Then today when i was stood on the river bank at the bottom of my garden (well past the fence) feeding the ducks with my 3 yr old twins a HERON landed on a small branch stuck in the middle of the river (its more of a stream really about 10ft across and knee deep) and as i threw bread for the ducks it was eating it too. I was thrilled i feed the ducks daily but to actually feed the heron too was amazing. The twins thought it was fantastic too. He stayed for about 15 mins (til i ran out of bread) before he flew away i was gutted that i didnt have my camera!!
Hi Nikki,
That must have been an unforgettable experience for you and your twins to see and feed the heron, and shame you had no camera. The snipe is something quite rare in a garden, and let's hope you have your camera to hand next time he comes. I think 2010 so far has been an extraordinary year for unusual birds in our gardens, and you seem to be doing quite well up to now!!
Cheers, Linda.
