our garden song birds

how many still have birds feeding in there garden and how often do you get a visit from a bird of pray as my garden has been cleared of all the birds i fed at 1 time my garden was full of gold finches   green finches  tits   thrushs sparrows brambull finches black birds  i watched alot of these birds growup i had a family of sparrows that all had white fethering on them i new them all when they came but the last 3 years the birds of pray have had them all  so now in my area we dont put food out on tables or in feeders any more we feed birds under hedges  or take food to local woods were the birds have a better chance to live as a bird table or feeder is just a feeding ground for birds of pray

life is to short

  • We had a pair of sparrowhawks but the birds still came to the garden.  By feeding the birds though it is in effect creating a mini version of an African watering hole in our gardens - prey species come to drink (in gardens feed) and predators follow where lions or hawks.  This is why it is always important to ensure there is plenty of suitable cover for birds to hide in when a predator comes along.  Anywhere a lot of birds gather will be a magnet for predators, it is nature and just something we have to live with.
