I have a couple of feeders over the mulched area at the end of my garden. as the birds feed they drop a lot of the seeds which then sprout. I have a very nice patch that looks like grass growing.
What can i do?
Hi Pinenut,
Welcome to the forum Pinenut.
All I can say is, join the club!!!!! Only remedies are:
1. Keep pulling up the sprouts
2. Move the feeders so they are over concrete or put a tarpauline down
3. Encourage some pigeons to hoover up the bits
Unless anyone knows any better.
Cheers, Linda.

I pay my son £1 a patch to weed up mine.
Hi Pinenut
Welcome to the forum from me too.
You could try trays beneath your feeders, or a bucket or something that will catch the seed, but if you do that remember to empty it so as not to attract unwanted critters or as Sparrow says get yourself some woodpigeons and starlings who are hooovermatics of the garden.
Good luck!
Regards
Kerry

Hi Birdmum
That's slave labour - tsk and you working for a school and all - you should know better!!!!! LOL
LOL Kezmo.
Shame on you Birdmum!
Lol Kezmo & Sparrow,
He is 12 on Saturday, becoming money obsessed, he does all sorts of jobs for people to earn money. He enjoys hoarding his money & doesn't see it as slave labour. He cleans cars, weeding, raking up leaves anything. I'm surprised he didn't think of clearing paths of the snow for people today.
He is saving money to adopt a family of 3 Gibbons at the zoo, (they have just had a baby). This is quite expensive with the keeper talk visit & plaque included so he is on a mission. It's all for a good cause so I just leave him to it.

Oh bless his heart, what a poppet, hope he achieves his goal...............don't suppose you want to send him Essex way as there's a million and one things that can be done around ours!!!
I do not know whether there is a cure or not.
Just have the feeders above bare earth so you can dig it over.
That is the only solution i can think about at the moment
Kathy and Dav
I think he would probably do a detour on the way down to Surrey (previous home) at half term Kezmo. Start your list Kezmo!
As for sprouting, I recommend weed block sheeting underneath with gravel on top, they are very easy to weed through the gravel with a small hand fork.
