I am so excited! Whilst poaching two eggs for my lunch I caught sight of a brand new bird in my garden. I was looping the loop so much I forgot about the eggs, but did manage to grab the camera. I couldn't believe my eyes. I am so not confident with my ID's of non-garden birds. It was walking, not hopping, and eating seed from a snow covered gravel area. My garden isn't very big, there is no grass and no pond.
Is it a pied wagtail?
Pictures taken through patio doors
It stayed for what seemed like ages, and wasn't worried about seeing me, until my dog appeared next to me, then it went.
Cheers, Linda.

Lol Brenda,
how about the WAGS Club but not the wives & girlfriends of footballers variety.
Sorry about your poached eggs but congrats on the Pied Wagtail...LOL!
I too doubt I'll ever part of this elite group that's started to form! There's the odd Wagtail seen around here, but they tend to hang around on Somerfield's carpark!
LOL Birdmum - WAGS is a great name. I think Buzzard should be the Chairman.
Nah, Sparrow, you can't do that any more otherwise you'll have the non-pc brigade after you. Buzzard will have to be chair person. Mind you, any sort of chair will do if we can tie him to it and stop him hogging all the birds LOL
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
OK Squirrel, Chair "person" it is ... he can have my goldies this week because my little pied wagtail came back again this morning!!!! He arrived on the patio and looked at me through the doors as if to say "where's my breakfast". It has been snowing all night and was still at it, so the snow was quite deep and had covered the scattered seed from yesterday. I quickly got a handful and opened the door, but he flew off. I have now cleared areas of snow and put some down, so hopefully he will be back.
It wasn't a case of ruined poached egg, more a case of soggy cornflakes!!
PS. I am joking that Buzz can have my goldies this week!!!!
(Sorry Buzzard, you will never live this down!!!)
I had a pied wagtail in my garden one day last week for the first time ever.
Hi Feathers,
Congratulations on your wagtail. You can now join our club. Aren't they just cute little birds? I am still on a high about mine.
That's great news Sparrow, fingers crossed he will become a regular now.
Great for you as well Feathers. I'm still waiting.....
Hi Sparrow
I have just joined and posted my pied wagtail photos on the migration section! Came to my house on 6th January and I took a few photots.....My lady/fella stayed for a good week....I haven't seen him/her for a couple of days now...bit worried and just hope he is entertaining someone else.
Your wagtail looks just like mine and behaves so too....mine was at my window every day...waiting for a photo-shoot I think...not at all peturbed by flash! Very brave, interested in humans sort of bird!
I have also seen song thrush in the garden for the first time...usually have two blue tits, one great tit, one lesser spotted woodpecker, one (very bossy!) robin - saw another bird today, but having trouble identifying him. He is mainly brown, breasted with while underparts near the rear - head with dark cap and light yellow in his wings only. What do you think?
Jeannie
Welcome Jeannie, I haven't seen you on here before :-)
