After our walk about Castlemill on the 2/1/2010, I noticed a notice about some changes that are being made in the area. Anyone any idea of the future implications of the changes that are being made at all. Is it usual to thin out trees December-time?
I know that removed trees will be replaced by other new trees – and we could see that throughout our walk.
As it is a quarry, it is important to local people ie bird watchers to see how the area changes.
In the past, I know that the water levels in the areas of water have changed a lot and have caused concern ie flooding so that nesting birds like Grebes have lost their nesting area's.
I will mention the same information to Bedford birders too for interest as Castlemill is an area that local bird watchers like to frequent too.
Any opinions will be appreciated, and of course my report is on the RSPB to read too {smile}

Taken pictures of the notice boards, and posted here about the issue of the changes.

Well, I don't know the site, but looking at the info you have provided, i think its a good thing they have provided so much information, a map, detailed intent of work, a contact phone number for inquires, and also it appears they are intending to spend a few quid.
I guess they are starting the work now as an attempt to minimise disturbance to nesting birds in the spring.
The text also mentions a footpath and cycleway around the site, so it sounds to me like a very nice area to visit, and that they intend to keep it that way.
Hi Blackbird, you might be interested to know your concerns about this site have started the rounds on twitter. :-)
Hi Juno
Interesting.
All I am is interested what is happening to the area that is all.
I have mentioned it to Bedford Birders Group too
Are the rounds by wildlife people?
That is what I would love to know?
Just had a look at Twitter, and the person who has noticed my 'message' seems to be a genuine birder from a named bird forum
So as long as I know that -that is fine
Thank you for letting me know and I will keep my eye on anything untoward.
Too many strange people in cyberspace.
