Firstly Im new to this site so hello to all. Ive been feeding the birds on a daily basis throughout the Winter with a mixture off bird feed and love to watch the birds feed. Today for the first time a lovely song thrush was feeding away and also chasing away any other birds it seemed to perch on our apple tree 10ft away and as soon as our regulars arrived down it came puffed it self up and stayed for a bit then back to apple tree this went on for hours . Is this behavour normal I wouldnt like to think the others will get hungry or maybe I will have to introduce another feeding point . Can anyone advise? Our regulars include Robins , Sparrows , Blue tits . Wood pigeons , Finches etc .
Hi Kezmo, I always put out the berry suet pellets and all the birds like those. When the two thrushes were here back in the summer that was what they went for as well so if it was one of the two same birds I suspect it was just checking to make sure the food supply was still available. There is sliced apple out there as well but my regulars don't seem so keen on that.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

I too have had a song thrush visit my garden regularly but it never feeds here and I have no idea why. If it does land my blackbirds chase it away. I'm wondering if they eat insects only (I might be wrong since I too am new to this). If you learn anything useful, let me know please!

Hi Squirrel, that's really odd as I put the berry suet pellets out and the only ones who seem interested are the starlings, the blackbirds don't seem too interested but they will eat the apple and grapes I put out. It's strange that the same bird species will eat differently in other areas and gardens. It's not as if suet pellets are a rare commodity is it?
