Do any of you have pet birds?

We are all bird lovers of the wild type on here. I also love pet birds. I have two green cheeked conures do any of you also like pet birds or have any?

  • Meet my lovely white budgie Freddie, with lovely brown eyes. He is actually a she but we did not know that when we named it. Doesn't talk but whistles wolf whistles and tunes off the tele. Six years old now

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.

  • Great photo Birdwatcher!

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that my Lutino budgie was called Woodstock (after the Snoopy bird not the festival!). I gradually taught it to say hello (it never got the hand of the aitch though!) but didn't think to tell my then-husband. He entered the dining room one morning with cereal bowl in one hand and mug of coffee in the other. It made an awful mess on the carpet when, despite still being covered for the night, Woodstock suddenly said " 'ello " very loudly!!!

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

Lovely budgie birdwatcher - Kiwi is currently on the laptop and is saying "hello".

So lovely to hear everyones stories, yep sharing your food is definitely a pet bird trait.

Interesting to hear of the knitting cockatiel, Mango my other conure also likes to unpick knitting & cross stitch(usually when you don't need it unpicking). I have to do it upstairs now.

School's Out due to snow woooo hooooooooooooooo!!!! (Sorry but I am staff not child) hence I have been at home since lunchtime. Kiwi & Mango have been watching the birds (Mango sits on my shoulder as she doesn't like the window perch hence she isn't in the photo's).

    He has been talking lots,

"Oi big bird" - to the wood pigeon

"hello little bird" - to sparrows, dunnocks etc

"poor birds" - as it is snowing.

"hello robin" - he can now identify the robin who comes on the patio table. How clever is that!!! Some 6 yr olds can't identify a robin!

Oh yes he can also say "Kiwi clever bird"

He is thoroughly happy that school is closed!

  • Great photos Thebirdmum and it's lovely to meet Kiwi, thanks for sharing.

Hello Freddie, you are a beauty, but I guess you know that!

Hello Kiwi, pleased to meet you! You are also a lovely bird and clever with it! You must be glad to be indoors in the warm and not outside in the snow with those common birds!

    Cheers, Linda.

    Hi Sparrow,

They go outside (in their cage) in the summer when it's warm enough, but I have to sit with them as they screech with fear of the garden birds if I'm not there. My Dad was going to build them an aviary for the summer time but I think they would just sit & screech. They are really loud & I don't want to annoy the neighbours so they just go out with me for a while.

  • Hi Birdwatcher - what a lovely budgie Freddie is.  Very striking being all white.

Hi Birdmum - Love the picture of Kiwi - has a wider vocabulary than me!   I too work for a school and oh so hoping for a closure but I don't think we'll get as bad as most of you have had.............woe! (then again I want it to snow for me, as I love it, but then don't want it to snow because of the birds!)

    I am so excited Kezmo,

I'm in the West Midlands & it hasn't stopped snowing since 3 o clock ish. I am praying for no school, the side roads are full of snow but if they go off the main roads being clear they will open. Most Head Teachers in the Borough were quick to close today so hopefully they will choose to stay closed, as a service we tend to follow the schools we support. It doesn't look like our Service Manager will let us close :-( .

Good luck Kezmo - hope you get tons of snow & have a day at home. Will see you here if I do too.
