I often think about this and would generally be very satisfied with a Great Spotted Woodpecker but to go for wishful thinking it would have to be a Red Kite as I think they are magnificent birds.
What would you all like?
Hi
if you mean a bird at this time of the year I'll go with Nutcracker.
if not - I always wanted to find a Dusky warbler in my garden

As I live in a built up area I am lucky enough to have a wee garden at the back. I am always glad to see a wee robin that comes visiting every morning. I once was lucky enough to have a fleeting visitation of a group of long tailed tits. But if wishes were kisses I'd love to see a golden eagle in my garden!

A Crossbill in the evergreen trees at the end of my garden - a nice touch anyday.

Very interesting choices! I also have only a small garden and sometimes get a little flock of long tailed tits, they're really sweet but they never stop to feed. I've achieved my goal of attracting greenfinches and goldfinches this year so fingers crossed I may get a woodpecker in the future.
I would ask for my goldfinches to come back, and also for my regulars to bring their babies in the spring.
Cheers, Linda.

They will come back Sparrow, I only had golfnches start visiting this August, they went away for a while and bought back another pair, their young seem to have stayed & lingered so I am hoping by this time next year I will have a nice little flock. I am certain birds have a mental mapping system (mini satnav) in their heads to find their favourite gardens. I am sure they will come back.
Ooh, good question. With my practical head on - we've been greenfinch-less for months - would welcome them back, it seems kind of odd not having their wheezy little voices around.
Being more aspirational - turtle doves, now that would be a lovely summer!
I'd love to see long-tailed tits in my garden,as it's a species I've never been lucky enough to see locally. Also a visit from a sparrowhawk would be nice. I last had one in my garden in 2008.

We have achieved our aim of attracting the goldfinches, so are pleased with ourselves! Had a woodpecker just once, so are hoping he may come back sometime. I love owls, and sometimes see a Little Owl on one of the neighbouring roofs, so it would be nice to have him come to us. Miss the sight of a hedgehog in the garden, sadly we don't seem to have them any more.
You would love our garden birdmum! We have a Great Spotted Woodpecker come several times a day to feed on peanuts and fat balls! The feeder is on the patio in a flower barrel so we get a super view of him! We used to have a lot of Goldfinches and Sisken come to our garden but haven't seen any in quite a while. Would be lovely to see those again. And in winter we usually get a Brambling or two but not so far.......
