Hello
Got any unusual sounding starlings? Starlings are great at mimicry, with examples including machines, such as telephones and car alarms, and other birds such as curlews and pied wagtails. We are looking to find some of the best ‘mimics’ If you have any great sounding starlings and can record them, let us know.
Cheers,
T
Why not check out the news from the wildlife enquiries team?
Have 'buzzard', a 'yellowhammer' and 'swift' sounding starlings! Not heard the 'yellowhammer' one for a while though! Also sure one does the blackbird alarm call as it doesn't quite sound right, but not actually caught it in the act yet!

Mine are driving me mad at the moment - whistling on the roof .... long whistles and high pitched. Lola the dog stops in her tracks when they start. cocks her head, and goes berserk looking for them!
Cheers, Linda.

I thought it was a bit early for swifts when I heard one the other day... Turned out to be one of our local starlings trying to fool us!! They also do car alarms and mewing cats. Regrettably I don't have the technology to record them...
Best Wishes, Rosy
I've got one that sounds like a Curlew and another that mimics a car alarm!
Home again, home again.

Have had a hen on the chimney - got me really worried! Also curlews, the sound of my squeaky gate opening, a vacuum cleaner and a saw!

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
Best one I had was a golden oriole, took us ages trying to find it, turned out to be a starling freash over from france. Alan
always many sides to an argument
Hi
Not a Starling but classic mimicry, when I was a lad (many many years ago) mum owned a Mynah Bird called Jacky which was very talkative, she also had 2 little mongrel terriers called Topsy and Trudy. When ever mum wanted the two of them in from the garden she would call "Topsy Trudy" sure enough it didn't take Jacky long to realise if he called them just as they were let out to do their business confusion entailed from the dogs, the looks on their faces as they turned to come back in still is ingrained in my memory.

trishy :)
Had one being a golden oriole a few days ago at the forestholidays reception centre in Cropton Forest N. York moors. And it was the only starling around. Reckon all its mates didn't bother to migrate so when it got back it couldn't find them. So it serenaded me from a chimney top.
