I could be wrong, but I can't find any information on this site about white doves! I saw a flock of them flying, pure white against the bright blue sky, and it was so beautiful...
I just wanted to know more about them... Like what status they are, etc :)
Domestic pigeons are often bred in all-white forms and these are popularly known as 'white doves' though they are the same species as other domestic (and feral) pigeons. Probably the most popular breed is the fantail, a pigeon selectively bred to have a big wide tail that it holds fanned out in display - most fantails are white though they come in other colours too. Many pigeon-keepers let their birds fly around at liberty as they will return to the dovecot to roost and nest.

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
We have a pair of white doves that vist the ground feeders every so often.
I was thinking maybe they were from a wedding and didnt go back home.
I have noticed over the road someone has a group of about 6-7 normal looking pigeons but these doves have nothing to do with them in fact they enjoy the company of "Gilbert" the local Woodpigeon.
A very old Shropshire Lad.
Some one will have a dove cote nearby, they will fly several times a day and return home.

Think there are a separate type of White Dove that have perhaps come from tame stock years ago as lots of farms have a colony of White Doves that nest in their barns and some have so many that they would class them as a pest.
The village I live in, Inkersall, Chesterfield has lots of white doves. They have been here for a few years and have bred quite successfully. I have two pairs currently nesting under my solar panels. They seem to like this place to nest as there are at least twenty other pairs in the village doing the same thing. Beautiful little birds but do tend to wake me up early in the morning singing and tap dancing on the roof.
