Tawny Owl nestbox

Question

Hi, 
 can anyone tell me if a Tawny owl would use a nest box in a farm outbuilding and, if so, would it matter if it was located inside or outside

Hi Jimbo, 
 I&rsquo;m involved with a number of owl studies and I would suggest you site a Tawny Owl box outside. 
 
 Box should face NE to SE if exposed to the elements. 
 Ideally site the box within a woodland, in a group of trees etc. 
 Height off the ground should be approx 10ft. 
 In larger wooded areas two boxes can be erected, one that the male can use to roost. 
 Allow a clear flight path to the entrance of the box. 
 The inspection hatch should be tied with wire, not string or other materials that squirrels can chew. 
 Site in a quite place away from human activity.
