Whilst in town today I heard a "cheeping" sound like a chick and sure enough after looking around for a second saw a pigeon on the top of a shop window ledge feeding quite a young chick ( it had its first downey feathers ). There was only one, but Is this as unusual as I think, and will it survive now that it is beginning to get colder ?

As far as I know, most of the pigeon family will breed year round if the conditions are right (food, climate etc...) so it may well be ok!

Welcome from me also Rhodri. I wasn't aware of that about pigeons, specifically, so thanks MarJus - another new fact for me to store in my memory - but the warmer autumn does seem to have encouraged many birds to produce late broods. One of my robin families was feeding young (still in the nest) in October.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Rhodri, MarJus is so right. We watched an adult pigeon feeding her young about two weeks ago in our garden. There is still so much food around for them.
