Hi there
I have to admit the endearing bird I have had is the Yellow hammer. While living at Stirling, Scotland we had a birdtable in the farm yard. A male and female Yellow Hammer would come in every morning and snack on the seed that had landed on the ground from the bird feeders.
In Scotland Yellow Hammers have the 'nickname' of Scottish Canery'. The yellow on the male bird is very bright and it was super to see them so close up as we did.
At the same property we where also lucky to have a Pied Wagtail and a Grey Wagtail. Both birds raised their families in our garden area. The little ones where so cute, and even though their tails where short and stubby they still wagged their tails. The birds in question seen to trust us. They where not worried when we weeded the garden area at all.
Anyone else had lovely experiences like mentioned here

Hi,
I have a love of raptors so the other day I was delighted when a merlin came into the garden, I had just switched off the mower after cutting the lawn, when I heard a commotion in the leylandi at the bottom of the garden, thought it was the next doors cat which loves climbing trees, but a merlin came bursting out with a house sparrow in its talons, it landed on the lawn and after getting its bearings flew off with its kill. I have an urban garden so it was very special to me.

Hi, I live five miles from the centre of Birmingham. A female sparrow hawk makes frequant visits to out garden. On one occasion, a flock of sparrows were feeding on the table, hawk flashed down, missed and they scattered, but didn't fly, they hid under our car and stayed there for ages after he left. I thought that was quite clever of the sparrows. Another occasion did not end so happily for the sparrows and it was my fault. I brushed off the bread board just outside the kitchen door, the sparrows flew down instantly, then a larger bird-a pigeon I thought. I went to the door and for for a few magic seconds was eye to eye with the hawk, wnigs spread and a hapless sparrow in his claws. Poor sparrow was trapped in the yard, I won't do that again.
isn't wild wonderful
I've been searching for a corvid video I once shot and found this. A forgotten gem, for me anyway, two Brambling in the snow. Winter 2005/6. Back garden.
As its video I put it on my flicker page.

John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Thanks John. That was a joy to watch.
Wonderful John. A real pleasure to view on a dark dank November late afternoon.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
That's a fantastic video John. An absolute joy to watch.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Hi John,
Lovely video!
I also took a look at your other photos on flickr - I know you have posted many on here but there were others that I haven't seen before and they are really spectacular - you could have your own bird book! Your photography is superp, it was a pleasure to look at them.

How do you keep these feeders for the exclusive use of the sparrows? Ours are shared by sparrows, goldfinches (they like a change from nyger most days), starlings, greenfinches, siskins, a very ambitious coaltit (later found the fatballs) and woodpigeons on the seed catcher trays!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Great video John!
Like Kezmo, I took the opportunity to have a nose at your piccies (I love piccies!!!) and you have some real crackers there!! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, thank you! Just a thought though, on page 10, top right, are you sure it's a greylag (have posted my comment under the photo!)
