I have a gold crest that has appeared recently. It has been here for 3 days and has a habit of hopping from a conifer at the side of the lounge window onto the window ledge and pecking at the window. I thought it was seeing its own reflection and have closed the blinds but it still comes and pecks at the glass. It jumps up higher from time to time and moves along the ledge. I have two cats and would hate anything to happen to this lovely little bird. Its crest changes colour from yellow gold to and orange shade.
Hi Jackie and welcome to the RSPB Forum. Enjoy yourself here
I think your Goldcrest will be on the hunt for small beasties to eat such as spiders, bugs and flies etc...
It also could be that it can see a reflection of itself too and that will make it think of its territory too - I am sure that the little bird will be fine, and is only doing what comes naturally.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Agree with Blackbird the bird is most likely searching for tiny insects

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Hi Jackie and a very warm welcome from sunny Somerset!
I think that little Chappy just wants to come in and read that copy of 'NUTS' magazine that you have on your coffee table!!!!! LOL
Apologies but the jokes won't get much better I'm afraid!!
Us too. Lovely little bird. Very brave.
This is an old thread, and unfortunately has duff advice. The original, and your latest bird are both responding to seeing their reflection in the glass. Best to prevent reflections. Otherwise, the bird will end up worn out or injured.
edit…..the duff advice is invisible once logged on…..but is there if browsing while offline. The advisor was a banned user.
