I don't know the reason for it but we have had loads and loads of all sorts of insects flying past our house and in the fields out the back.
They are all coming from the direction of the sea and we have never seen this before. Other years it has been one of the insects invading us but never this many varieties at the same time.

Hi guys.
I saw ladybirds arriving in amazing numbers at the Norfolk Coast on Sunday drifting in off the sea in swarms. They were everywhere! They've had a bumper breeding season apparently.
I blogged about it in on our Notes on Nature blog if you'd like to have a read!

Hi to All,
Afriend of mine payed a visit to Cleethorpes recently and said they where in the sea there.
I remember in the 1970's I think it was 76 we had an invasion of ladybirds here in Grimsby.

Yes, I remember the ladybird invasion - absolutely thousands of them all along the Humber bank, not to mention gardens etc. Quite a few around this year too, but not as many as back then. Interested to see this thread, as elsewhere on the forums people seem to indicate that it has been a poor ladybird year for them. Is this a geographical thing? It has been much drier here in the east than the west - lots of showers, but also lots of sunshine.
