Advice please - I was called by neighbour to help a pigeon who was being attacked by a cat. It has feathers missing with a hole in one wing (middle) where the feathers appear to have been chewed off - there’s blood on wing.
Ive caught it & placed it in box in shed to chill..
what is best to do with the bird ?? It can stay in shed for as long as needs be - I’ll feed & water it until it recovers but is this the best action? Is there anywhere better it should be? Should I check its body for further damage or ???
thanks for your time ..
Hi, as it has been catted, the pidge needs antibiotics as a matter of urgency. Without them it will not survive. Check www.helpwildlife.co.uk to see if there is a pigeon friendly rescue in your area. Given that it is a juvenile wood pigeon, they might be more likely to help. Try to keep it warm.

Can you get it to a rescue or vet? When I have tried to rescue them in the past they have died of shock in the first night sadly.
I’ve tried calling all vets / rescues - they either don’t take birds / no answer ?! It’s soo sad….
its in shed for time being in box with rich tea biscuit crumbled as it’s all I have to put in with it currently- we feed the wild birds in winter anyways so will nip out & get some wild bird seed
Did you check the www.helpwildlife.co.uk website for pigeon friendly rescues in your area?
I'd suggest leaving a ramekin of water next to it so that it is able to drink.
Yes I did & called everyone but it was either - we don’t take in birds or no answer! I’ll leave it some water too but if survives the night the poor thing will need help as it’s wing has a wound - bled.
UPDATE : Pigeon survived the night & ate some seed. It seems settled so managed to get through to charity rescue in Liverpool who are willing to take it in. On way this morning so fingers crossed this little soul will be viable enough to be given a second chance of life & not euthanised
That’s fantastic news. Great job
thanks for the update and well done getting help for this pigeon; fingers crossed for it.

Wonderful news! That pidge must be a fighter. Well done for not giving up on it. Your persistence seems to have paid off.
Well done and good luck, hope all will be well for the bird. Good for you for caring
