Hi, this weekend 7/9/24, I have loads of red admiral butterflies, just wondering why & why now? 10/14 at any one time, especially around a tree covered in ivy!
Plus I have seen a rapture, about the size of a large crow, has brown plumage with some greenish/ mottled colours, plus a white cap on its head but can't find a description with RSPB, any ideas?
Thanks
Sarah
The Red Admirals are after the ivy flowers. As for your raptor (presumably), have you got any photos? The commonest crow sized raptor is the Buzzard, which is brown. They rarely have a white cap though.
Hi, thanks for the reply on Red Admirals, that would make sense as they are all over the tree covered in ivy. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the raptor, nay ge next time
