Is it usual to see as many as 5 or more Red Kites flying together?
Just seen 5 or 6 wheeling around above Plymouth city. Amazing.
Depends where you are I suppose. Groups of kites are a common sight here in W. Yorkshire, especially where people feed them.
That was a good spot, and would say that many a bit unusual. But do read reports of red kites in Devon.
Could be the time of year, if they are parents plus youngsters. I seem to remember seeing 4 or 5 together when I was out butterflying earlyish last summer
they are quite gregarious and even so its quite common to see multiple Kites and Buzzards sharing a thermal.
I tend to see them in ones and twos in my area (South Wales) but in Powys and other areas of Wales where there are bigger populations of Kites it's not unusual to see a great number at once.
