Hello, we have a blackbird nest in the garden and the blackbird mother was killed today. We suspect she was killed by a sparrow hawk. Will the chicks survive? I've not seen the father since she died. He was regularly in and out of the nest along with his partner. When I approach the nest I can hear song that sounds like an adult male, not chicks. I'm far from an expert though. I understand that it's his territory and he'll likely find another mate but what about the chicks? The females death has upset me. I'd become very attached to watching her and her partner in the garden. I'd very much appreciate some guidance. Will the chicks be okay? Thank you in advance
Always very sad to see a female bird being predated and leaving chicks in a nest ... I strongly suggest you contact this organisation for expert advice ...
