This morning I noticed one of my nesting boxes had fallen from the tree, and had been chewed a fair bit by something and moved 3-4 meters away from the base of the tree. I'm not sure how long it's been down but could be anything up to a day and a half as we didn't go in the garden yesterday.
I picked it up and, given the amount of chewing on the box, I was amazed to find there were still baby birds inside cheeping at me. I put it back up in the tree in the original spot as we have a lot of cats and foxes that frequent our garden and it seemed unsafe to leave them in such an open spot.
But now I'm worried the parents won't find it. I could see two great tits keep returning to the spot where I'd discovered the box, looking for it. Do you think they will find it?
in short - yes. They obviously found it where it had been moved to so they should be able to find it again, especially if its back where it was - especially if the chicks can still chirp.
