We’re very excited that 2 robins have made a nest in our shed, in a bale of straw on top of our rabbit hutch. my only concern is that we close the door at night, as our rabbits live in the shed! They have open access to the whole shed.
We’ve only found the nest tonight after noticing the robins going in & out over the weekend.
any ideas what we should do?
If the shed has a window, leave that open a bit so they can go in and out whenever they wish. My FiL has Robins regularly in his shed and that's what he does - the Robins seem perfectly happy with the arrangement!
Not ideal to have them shut in all night - they'll doubtless be up and active before you're awake and opening the door. If it's a simple shed with no window, maybe you could remove one of the topmost bits of panelling to create a temporary hole they could use?

Thanks for the reply! we have a window, but not one that opens. im thinking about drilling a whole in the shed, like on a bird box.
hopefully that’s ok for them to use at night & that they find it OK. Then the door will still he open in the day for them to fly through.
Hi Kirsty, Robins do not use a nestbox with a hole, their boxes are open fronted so a small square hole would be needed! Here is an example

Oh thank you Wendy. That’s really helpful. in this case I may try to adapt the window so there’s a bigger gap. hopefully they will find it ok!
Do let us know if the Robin progresses with this nest.
