Thank you so much, Linda. I haven’t seen one before. It initially looked like a jay from a distance, but now sometimes comes to the fence when I’m feeding the blackbirds and I could see it had slightly different markings to a jay, up close. Appreciate your help x

It seems to have a juvenile with it. Very similar markings on the chest and when one of the blackbirds went to run the ‘juvenile’ away, the adult ff came out of seemingly nowhere, to run the blackbird off. 

Not a problem..you usually see them with Redwing at this time of year..lovely visitors to have :-)

Probably worth putting a photo up of the other bird you're describing as a juvenile so it can also be identified. There are no fieldfares juveniles (or almost any bird other than a few pigeons) in January.

Hello, thank you. Yes, aware re time of year not being usual, but the ff is keeping other birds away from it. Could be a redwing with it;  I’ll post a photo when it is next out. Thanks again. Clearly new to birdwatching, but loving learning.

Thanks. My suspicion is song thrush as they tend to keep out of the way, incl amongst dense undergrowth or perch inside bushes like the one in your photo. They do take some interest in apples, but readily keep out of the way if more dominant species are about. If blackbirds are chasing it, all the more likely it is a song thrush.
