We live adjacent to Pamber Forest and are accustomed to hearing owls at night. At about 01:00 this morning (after another day of record temperatures) I was surprised to hear what sounded like the call of a Scops Owl. I remember this distinctive call form a holiday in the Lot region of France a few years ago. Surely it's not possible that this Mediterranean species has made its way this far North?
