New bird feeder

I’ve recently installed a bird feeding table in my garden about a week ago, it’s currently sitting on our patio around 15 ft from our patio doors and about 30 feet from fencing.

The feeders are at varied heights, I have the peanuts, sunflower heart seeds and peckish complete mix

I haven’t as yet had any visitors, I’ve sadly got no bushes or trees in my garden, only a couple of planters. Hoping to get a planted shrub soon!!

I just wanted to make sure I’m doing it properly and that I can expect is it going to be time before I do attract any birds.

After rainfall, I always clean out the feeders to get rid of any stale or mouldy food.

I just want to know if there is something I’m missing, or are the birds slightly worried about visiting.

I can only speak from my own experience when I first got into feeding the birds, it took around a month before I was getting birds coming regularly. I also bought a bird bath that they used for drinking And bathing. I am sure you will get them coming to your feeders in time, good luck.

Hi Luke, welcome to the community. Personally I would have the feeding station closer to the fence than the patio door..yes I know you wanna be able to see the birds but you gotta think of them and what's preferable to them....the fence would give them a place to perch to check out your feeding station and possible dangers. Many a bird has stunned itself on a patio door or window when sun is shining as it can often see the sky in them...hence why not to put any feeders close to them.
A bird bath us a good idea like ILR suggested.
Also on cleaning..when the birds become regular visitors the feeders have to be cleaned on a more regular basis not just to get rid of mouldy food after rain as it helps stop the spread of any infection..usually every 2 wks or so is a good idea.

As for when the birds will turn up...its just a waiting game now lol but please keep us updated ;-)

Thank you for your advice both, I’ve moved the feeder away from the patio doors and closer towards the fencing.

Hopefully we will get some visitors soon :)

Only my opinion but personally I would still have it much further away from the house...right down closer to the back fence but as I say only my opinion;-)

No bother..Once upon a time 25years ago I also had an empty garden like yours...just a bigger version but through time have finally made it wildlife friendly

Ano am a pain lol...but a would bring it in slightly so there is about 6ft of so between feeder and fence just incase a cat were to be sitting other side of fence but it's all about trial and error and a whole lot of patience lol
