We live in Central London. We have window boxes directly outside where we eat and sleep and our building is above a shallow lake where there is no vegetation. There is a paved large area around the manmade lake. It's called The Barbican - known for its concrete.
On April 10, our friendly woodpigeon couple's two eggs hatched and the baby birds are doing well. We can't open our windows as there is a lot of mess close to where we eat and sleep and we are coping. We're worried that when they try to fly (when would this be? Another two weeks?), they will just fall in the lake and get eaten by carp or seagulls or make it to the concrete and still get eaten.
Honestly, if we could move them to the other side of the flat, they would at least fall onto a school's roof but even that's not ideal, and will the parents abandon them? Is there anything we can do? We are surprised they lasted so long as we do also have crows, magpies, and jays that come to us regularly as we have bird feeders for the smaller birds (greenfinches, goldfinches, blue tits, coal tits). thank you.
