I have sparrowhawks in my garden regularly but today had what I think is a female sparrowhawk but some friends think it may be a Kestral. Can anyone confirm if its a female sparrowhawk or a
kestrel? Thank you

Totally agree with Wendy but you're going to be waiting a long time for an expert so you will have to put up with me. LOL
For what it's worth I would say it's most likely a male. Difficult to make out the colours from your photo, Joanne, but the bill looks to dinky for the much larger female. The smaller males are the more frequent visitors to gardens but in any event it's definitely a Sparrowhawk.

Thanks for your comment Tony - I've had a so-called 'expert' tell me its a female sparrowhawk but I have no idea. The sparrowhawks in my garden don't usually have spots on their backs which threw me.
