Hello
We have a young woodpecker visiting our garden now - have just managed to get a good look at him through the bins and definetely a young one. We have had the adult birds for a couple of years but this is the first time for a youngster.
We still have yellowhammers visiting lots of times every day - will try to get photos - we think we have 2 males and 2 females but difficult to be sure - sometimes I think they may be juveniles so need photos to be sure.
Has anyone had baby yellowhammers in their garden?
We have baby blue tits and great tits and 2 baby robins at the moment - birds all seem to be visiting frequently still.

Hi Jazzcat
That is great news to have Juvenile Woodpeckers and Yellow hammers in your garden
The Juvenile Woodpeckers a distinctive. The Juvenile Yellow Hammers look streakier and the yellow areas more washed out than the adults. You would not think that they are the same species of bird. I have never spotted a Juvenile Yellow Hammer yet and one day hope to - will carry on wishing for the time being.
You are lucky to have great views of your juvenile birds at the moment.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hello Blackbird
Yes the yellowhammers are proving difficult as we don't seem to see them all together - we think we have 2 males as one of them seems a lot yellower that the other.
I've asked my husband to take photos during the day then hopefully we can compare and see for certain what we have!
As you say the young woodpecker is quite distinctive - he is visiting the peanut feeder at the bottom of the garden so can't see him from the house. Today was the first time I managed to get the binoculars on him- woodpeckers always seem to be round the back of the feeders - I'm sure they do it on purpose
Yes, I have noticed that Woodpeckers seem to sense that you are watching them and they like to hide around the other side of feeders. It is like they are playing peek-a-boo with you.
I would love to see any photos that you have of your Woodpecker and your Yellow Hammer anytime
We all love our photo's here {thumbs up}
