Hi there,
My parents have a next box fairly high up on the side of their house with a camera in it. Two blue tits were nesting and 10 eggs were laid. Last week, before the eggs hatched, they disappeared as did the mother and father. There are no cats about and in any case the box has a very small hole. Does anyone have any idea what could have taken the eggs and the mother and father? There were no shells on the ground or evidence of any sort, just no eggs. My mum was very upset as they had been waiting 3 years for something to nest in the box. Any suggestions?
Could the eggs have been covered by the parents with nest material? Sometimes the parents cover the eggs with nest material before leaving the nest. If for some reason the female left the nest and something happened to her, then unfortunately the nesting attempt will fail.
Hopefully all will be revealed throughout the course of the summer!
