Last year the Blue Tits in our nest box with cam laid 10 eggs and only one hatched. This year even worse, 10 were laid, & she sat on them for 3 weeks but none hatched. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be happening? Our whole family is upset & disappointed, it's such a shame
Brewsters of Surrey
Hi Brewer, welcome to the forum.
One of the main reasons for them failing is the fact they haven't been fertilized. This could be due to the age of the adult birds.
Another reason is the eggs haven't been kept warm enough.
Over the last few weeks I have checked several hundred Bluet Tit & Great Tit nests and have found numerous eggs that have failed. Only yesterday I found a nest with seven out of ten eggs failed.
Unfortunately Mother Nature can be cruel.

Chemtrails probably to blame, they've been really bad this year. Hardly a day goes by without them happening!
