Baby magpies stranded

There are two baby magpies sitting under a parked car outside my place of work.

They have been there for approx. 4 hours.  The mother was flying around previously but I haven't noticed her recently.  We are scared incase they get run over by a car, but no-one seems to know what to do for the best.

Any advice, some say using gloves, pick them up and put them inside a box and then in a nearby tree.  Others say leave them be.

Help

  • I would recommend leaving them alone as both parent birds will know exactly where their young are and will return to feed them sporadically through the day, all being well. If they are in danger of being run over then moving them a short distance to the safety of a tree or hedge would be an option.

The general rule with fledglings is to leave them alone and let the parents do their job.

Thanks Ian, I will just keep a beady eye on them.
