missing from new pocket birds

Hi just wondered if anyone could advice me , could there be a reason why 2 varieties of bird , the Stalk and the Azzure winged Magpie are not included in the RSPB's pocket bird guide of Britain anmd Europe . When clearly they are both resident in Portugal and Spain to my first hand knowledge. thanks in advance

  • If it's the pocket book I think you're talking about it doesn't include all species, just 300 or so and the British one alone has almost that many in it so there are many more birds missing.  It isn't meant as a comprehensive guide covering all species likely to be encountered, I don't know how they pick what goes in and what is left behind but that is what has to happen with the smaller field guides because it isn't possible to cover them all.  For a comparison, the RSPB complete guide has over 500 species listed, and the Collins guide has about 700.
