Hi all
I took this photo of my local Red Kite that I see most days, but today was the closest that I have ever seen him.
It looks like he has been shot through his right wing. Could those holes be anything else?
Best wishes Chris

Hi Chris, I don't see any holes anywhere in your red kite (lovely photograph, by the way), just a little bit of wear and tear on the edges of some of its feathers. That pale spot on its right wing just looks to me like a bald patch where a few feathers are missing.
Hi Chris,
Fantastic photo! SB

Hi Chris
I see you've got the photo you've been trying for and very nice it is too. I agree with AB that it looks like a small patch of white rather than a hole. I often see Kites who look a bit frayed round the edges with a few feathers missing.
Regards TJ

Hi TJ et all
Yes I now have more shots of Red Kites against blue skies than I can shake a stick at.
Thank you all for your kind comments. They encourage me to keep trying.
If anyone is looking for a Red Kite photo in any particular aerial pose: I'm your woman! My next challenge is to get a close up of a perched bird.
I went to Warburg Nature Reserve and took about 100, then my local bird across the road came down to say hello and have a closer look at me yesterday.
When I blew one photo up so that the image slightly blurred, that's daylight you can see through those white marks on the right shoulder part of the wing.

I stand corrected. It's always possible that someone took a pot shot at it - there's enough lunatics about. However, it doesn't seem to have affected it unduly.

Hi TJ
My apologies but I didn't mean to correct anyone in any way :-) I should have made it clear by posting a closer pic of the holes, but it doesn't look very good when it's blurred.
Thankfully it seems to have recovered very well if it was a partial shotgun blast.
Awful if it has been shot at but it's a cracking photo anyway!!

Lovely shot and the bird is graceful in flight.
Kites are just spectacular birds.

Hi MarJus
It would be an awful shame, and thank you :-)

Hi Kathy
Thanks for the kind comment. I never tire of watching them. I could be in the field all day when the Red Kite and the Buzzards are there.
