I have noticed over the last couple of days that the sparrows in my garden have been pulling the very new leaves off my hawthorn tree! Can anyone explain why they are doing this as they dont appear to be using the leaves for anything, they just drop them on the floor. Last year they did the same to my whitebeam.

Hello Linda welcome to the Community!
Sparrows do have somewhat of a reputation for.. ahem, erm, the odd bit of vandalism. There really isn't any other explanation to this! They have already destroyed all the new buds on my cherry tree!
I guessing this behaviour also tie’s in with their close associations with human habitation in that when selecting nests sites they will look for any opportunity to excavate nest holes and pull things part like a dog to a cuddly toy! Sparrows also pull down house martin and swallow nests which although appears to be nothing but aggressive behaviour, also reduces competition with other birds. This is perhaps even more essential due to their sedentary lifestyle. So perhaps it’s an act of dominance!?
Also, whilst I’m here we'd strongly recommend that you don't display your email address on the internet as a username, as that's how many spammers find addresses to bombard with emails (they use bits of software which search the web, looking for email addresses to collect).
But if you didn't change your username yourself, please let me know so that we can stop this happening in future.
Thanks
Hello Lloyd Scott
Thank you for your answer to my Destructive Sparrows question. You are probably correct and as the hawthorn has come into leaf before the whitebeam they have started on that first this year!
Also with regard to my email address being included, this is the first time I have placed a question a forum and being a complete numpty (my daughters word not mine) when it comes to computers I must have failed to realise that it would include my email address. I have tried to edit the address out but have failed miserably and need assistance to recify this.
Thank you

My daughter has come to my rescue and as you can see my email address has been removed!
Arh great stuff was just about to respond - glad you're all sorted now!
best wishes and hope you enjoy using the site!

Hi Linda,
I had this problem too on first registering. My email address kept appearing in place of my username. Whenever I edit my profile, it's still there large as life in the box that should contain the latter.
You might be able to cure the problem thus:
1. Go to "My page"
2. Click "Edit profile"
3. Change the contents
4 Click "Save Changes"
Hope this helps

In your first reply to my question you included my question which contains my email address. Could you please let me know how I can remove this from the forum?
Hi Mickycoop
Many thanks for your reply it was however nanoseconds too late as my daughter had already suggested it!
Job Done!

Hi Lloyd Scott
Many thanks for removing my email address.
Another thing I have learnt. I can't say I have ever noticed this behaviour from a sparrow. Thanks Lloyd.
