I visited Norfolk last year - the north coast - brilliant trip. And managed to photograph some Godwits. But I am not sure which are which or who is who? Are they Bar or Black tails? Or even Godwits?
I think the first one is a Bar and the second a Black.....?
Many thanks for any help!
Best wishes, Graham

Hi
both birds are BLACK TAILED GODWITS :)))
Spotted redshank has a V shaped rump that goes up the back- blackwit has a square rump like the lower bird :)

Argh! Does that mean I still have to get a photo of a Bar-Tail? :)
Thanks seymouraves - I have other photos of Godwits so will try and post them here soon for ID!
BTW the first photo was taken Jan 29th, 2009 at Titchwell whilst the second one was taken the day after around the Holkham area.....
Hi,
bar tails are reasonably straight forward to photo at Titchwell in winter on a rising tide on the beach :)
For advice about Birding, Identification, field guides, binoculars, scopes, tripods, etc - put 'Birding Tips' into the search box
Here's one I took earlier :)
Thanks for all the help everyone....I'm putting them both down as Black-Tails......
But at the risk of giving everyone a headache here are some more - hoping that maybe I have a Bar-Tail among them :) - look upon it as a quiz :)
BTW Great photo seymouraves.......

Hi Graham,
Wow! a couple of very nice portraits there. Perhaps I should keep my head down, given my earlier "confusion". But, bigmouthed, opinionated so-and-so that I am, I'm rearing my ugly head once more.
Sorry mate, 4 initially looks a bit "dodgy" with a lot of leg submerged, but I'm confident that all are Black-tailed.
I'll say it again WOW! 1 & 2 really are beautiful shots.
MC:-)
YOU GOT THERE!!!!! :)
1,2,3 are Blackwits
4 is a Barwit
5 is a juvenile Ruff
Nice one S,
Oh the shame, the shame! I give in. Anybody wanna buy a scope and a pair of bins? Or, will swap for a decent pair of glasses!
!!! Thanks Seymouraves....
Sending you a virtual high-five :) altho' I'm going to try and get a better Barwit photo than that one. AND a Ruff - another first for me! Another high-five :)
MC: I sympathise greatly with you - I'm adding my zoom lens to the list!
I have to be honest and say that the first two photos were taken last year whilst on a visit to Penshurst Place where these guys were in an enclosed area and all I had to do was sit down and wait for them to get closer.....
Thanks again!
hmmmm Pensthorpe?
For good close photos of wild birds the hide right by the car park at Cley is pretty good- :) With a reasonable telephoto
Hi everyone well that was interesting,as good as it gets with you knowledgable lot disagreeing in a pleasant way, enjoyed reading all comments but still wouldn't be certain of any of them myself.
