I have two collard doves which regularly visit my garden. In recent weeks there has only been one. would this be because one is tending to the eggs???
They both just appeared in the garden together! phew!
Hi Pinenut
I had a similar scare. One of my pair suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago. The curious thing was that the remaining one started getting overfriendly with the visiting wood pigeon who wasn't best pleased. I couldn't make out whether it was trying to mate with it or chase it off. Anyway to cut a long story short a week or so ago it turned up with another collared dove and harmony was restored.
Whether the first one was killed and he just found a new mate I shall probably never know.
Regards
TJ

Hi Pinenut and welcome to the forum,
Apparently the female collared dove will sit on the eggs during the day whilst the male goes off for food, then they swap over and the female get s to go for food in the evenings whilst the male sits. So it isn't unusual just to see one when there have previously been two.
Cheers, Linda.
