Silly question I know!!!
I know that birds sometimes fight their reflections in windows but they also fly into them too.
Now our house is long and thin and one room follows opens on to the next and I've noticed that if I keep the doors closed the birds take a lot less notice of me when I am in the kitchen and still. They can definately detect some movement especially when I've got my white dg on even with the doors closed, but often as I walk through with the doors open I see the birds flitting off!
Are they just detecting movement or can they see me???

I didn't get to be stupid by being blonde, I was stupid enough to pay to be blonde!!!
No question is silly save for the one that isn't asked!!
No expert on this but I believe it is movement they detect. If the sun in reflecting on the window, they can't see in and don't see me moving about but if it's dull or the sun is the other side, they are more aware of me. I am also a firm believer that they somehow 'feel' your eyes on them! Don't know how but there we are!!

I've learnt that my white dressing gown also alerts the birds that I'm about and watching, of course some mind and some don't. most of the time I wear black/dark colours and they seem not to notice me watching so much.
And that is so true, no question is silly
Not a silly question at all! :o)
I sometimes wonder that too, especially as here it depends on the bird regarding the reaction I get from behind the windows. For example, the blackbirds aren't the slightest bit bothered either way, the collared doves fly off if you so much as get anywhere near the door into the conservatory, the sparrows won't come down from the trees if you're in the conservatory and the magpie flies off if you're up the window and move.
You can see straight through if we leave the dining room door open here but that doesn't bother the birds if we're moving about inside, most of them are only bothered if you're up the windows.
Maybe it just depends on how brave the bird is?
